Those that are horse racing lovers are often spoilt for choice when it comes to the manner in which they watch the coverage of the sport. The same is not quite as true for greyhound racing, which is something of the forgotten sport nowadays. The good news is that the Racing Post’s Greyhound TV exists. Often referred to as RPGTV, it is a channel dedicated to the world of greyhound racing, showing races from all around the country and meaning that people don’t need to go into a bookmaker or other location in order to get their fill of the sport involving man’s best friend. Instead, you can watch it in the comfort of your own home.

It Launched in 2011

December 2011 Calendar

It was in December 2011 when the Racing Post Greyhound Television channel was first launched, giving people the chance to watch greyhound races from their home. There had been other channels that had launched previously, such as GoBarkingMad, but this was the first channel that worked in agreement with the industry and with its support. Whilst it didn’t show races from all greyhound courses around the country, there were a good number of them that showed greyhound events whenever they were taking place. That was throughout the day and into the evening, shown on both Sky and FreeSat.

It Has Grown Over the Years

Wall Clock Close Up

When RPGTV first launched, it offered just three programmes and had racing from Romford and Sunderland on offer. It was limited to the evening, with programmes being broadcast from 7.15pm until 10.45pm. It is fair to say that it has grown somewhat since then, not only in terms of what it offers but also in how you can watch it. There is a YouTube channel for RPGTV, plus a TikTok account showing videos and amusing snippets form the world of greyhounds. It has also launched a Freeview channel, meaning that it isn’t just limited to the Sky and FreeSat audience that it was when it was first on our televisions.
